We Were Never There by Andrea Bartz

Emily and Kristen are best friends who met in university who love travelling together and have been inseparable since they met. They understand each other so well that they have their own way of doing things and can create coded messages to each other that only they understand.

Kristen and Emily are off to meet in Chile and haven’t spent as much time together the past year as Kristen had taken a job in Australia.  Usually Kristen and Emily plan a trip together once a year however the last time they travelled together to Cambodia wasn’t as fun as their previous trips and there were some traumatic events that took place.

The book is Reese’s pick for August, fortunately it was a somewhat quick read and didn’t take days to finish.  The best way to describe it is a summer thriller with a few twists in the plot but nothing super crazy and shocking that left me wondering.

I enjoyed it and would really give 3.75 stars.  It was entertaining while I read it but I don’t feel like it would be a book that would be memorable to me over time or that I would want to read again.
